SLANTED USA TODAY AND NBC REPORTS ATTACK GA AIRPORTS

On Thursday, the general aviation community was attacked in the media
with biased reporting in USA Today and NBC.  Each featured a story that
made inaccurate claims regarding GA airports receiving a
disproportionate amount of federal funding.  This story was decidedly
one-sided with statements and figures that came from the nation's
airlines, which for several years has been trying to shift the burden of
supporting the nation's infrastructure to general aviation users.  EAA
put a statement refuting those claims on our website by mid-day Thursday
and also included it in this week's e-Hotline.  We also asked EAA
members and other aviation enthusiasts to make their feelings known to
the news outlets through letters or e-mail comments.  Other aviation
organizations, including AOPA, also reacted strongly to the news story.
The story was disappointing and shows the continuing amount of education
that is needed to make the real facts of the issue known to the public.
