RARE KLEMM AIRCRAFT ARRIVES IN OSHKOSH...
Monday, June 29, 2009 at 3:39PM I know - Bob and I helped unload it! Wealth Educators for Aviators, LLC, is sponsoring the appearance of this rare aircraft from Austrailia. The Klemm is an open cockpit, low-wing aircraft. It was built in 1934 and has a very colorful history. At the current time, it is owned by a Protestant from Northern Ireland who now lives in Australia. When he heard that Bob would be heading up EAA's "Fly For Life" feature which honors humanitarian and mission aviation, he thought that the world should see this aircraft.
Roy Primrose's Klemm was used in mission aviation in Papau New Guinea in the late 1930's. The aircraft was shipped out of Germany before the war. It was then christened by the Catholic Church as "St. Paulus" and sent on its way to do mission work. It is the oldest aircraft in existence that was used for mission aviation work.
The Klemm was also used on humanitarian missions. When the Japanese bombed New Zealand, the Klemm was used to evacute children. The passenger seat is small, but it is told that a half dozen children were squeezed in the aircraft for evacuation.
We are indeed proud to be a corporate sponsor for the appearance of this rare aircraft. We have since learned that this aircraft is the longest continuously registered aircraft in all of Australia. We also learned that before the aircraft could leave Australia, the Austalian government's "Antiquities" department had to approve its visit to the United States. They would not let it out of the country without a "return date"!
We hope you come to AirVenture and have an opportunity to visit with us, Roy and his wife, Primrose, as well as this unique aircraft.
